Parents are ditching traditional advent calendars for this new trend

The countdown to Christmas has finally officially begun. That can only mean one thing. It's an advent calendar.

Like anything else, advent calendars can be quite expensive unless you go the traditional chocolate route (and even that can be quite expensive!).

So one mother came up with a solution that not only saves money but also guarantees quality time with her little ones.

unique ideas

mother Corinne takes on TikTok To introduce you to the special advent calendar she made for children.

“Preparing our favorite Christmas tradition 🎄,” she captioned the video.

One mother, Corinne, took to TikTok to show off the special advent calendar she made for her children.

In it, Corinne is seen collecting, wrapping and decorating 24 Christmas-themed books.

Each book is numbered from 1 to 24, so open and read together each day leading up to your big day.

“We reuse the same Christmas books every year,” she revealed in the caption.

“I love how easy it is and how it promotes spending time together.”

“i love this!”

Mums in the comments were quick to praise Corinne's idea and say they plan to jump on the trend this Christmas.

“This is a must do! My toddler loves books,” said one commenter.

“I've been thinking all week about what to do for Advent this year and this is it!!!” said another.

Someone said, “Oh, I love this! I was looking for a non-chocolate advent calendar.”

“I love this. I want to do this for my sons this year,” said a fourth child.

Some people have suggested similar ideas to save even more money.

“Is it weird to wrap library books? (Please return them, of course),” one person suggested.

“Another way to save money is to buy the book at the op shop if you don't mind it being Christmas themed,” said another.

“If you like the idea but can't afford that many books, you can buy an advent calendar with minibooks for about $20,” said a third.

Another person suggested: “Maybe you can buy it at a discount after Christmas this year and do the same next year.”

Or try this.

If your child isn't really into books but wants to make a homemade advent calendar this year, you might want to try this idea.

Last year, TikTok creator @emilycarriveau shared how she made her own by using a tackle box and filling it with whatever her kids wanted.

“Having 24 compartments means this is the perfect box,” she said.

“Fill your advent calendar with whatever you want: hot chocolate, Nespresso, toys and trinkets, money. The bottom line is, everything will be fine!”
