Parent Rights Group Issues Warning Against Teachers’ Unions
A parent rights organization has issued a serious alert to families, suggesting that two major teachers’ unions in the U.S. are prioritizing extreme policies over the educational needs of students. This statement, coming from the American Federation of Parents, specifically targets the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA).
The report outlines worries that these unions are more focused on ideological pursuits. It claims that they are spending significant amounts of money—hundreds of millions, in fact—on what it describes as “woke organizations,” which seemingly detracts from student success.
According to the warning from the APC, both the NEA and AFT seem to be pushing several far-left agendas. Notably, this includes support for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, protests against the former Trump administration, criticism of a Supreme Court ruling regarding parents’ rights over LGBTQ+ content in schools, and advocacy for climate change initiatives.
Ally Marais, the Executive Director of APC, expressed concerns in a statement, saying, “Teachers’ unions were originally formed to support educators and enhance teaching quality. However, they’ve transformed into politically radical groups that leverage their power to promote far-left ideologies, neglecting student academic achievement.”
She urged parents to recognize the substantial sway these unions hold over educational environments, cautioning that the policies they promote can erode parental trust without easily advancing children’s education. “Year after year, these unions align with campaigns that favor Democrats and ignore the critical need for students to grasp basic subjects like reading and math. It’s crucial that educators focus on these fundamentals rather than political agendas,” Marais noted.
The report also takes aim at the NEA’s 2025 Handbook, which the APC describes as reflecting “extremist beliefs” and making negative claims about home education. Notably, it highlights a section attributing “white supremacy culture” as a driving force behind systemic racism.
Fox News Digital has reached out to both the NEA and AFT for their responses to these claims. Meanwhile, the APC has provided a resource for parents to formalize complaints and lobby their local school boards for better prioritization of student outcomes. Marais emphasized that, “Parents deserve transparency about what is being taught in schools and who is shaping educational content. It’s crucial to reclaim parental rights and insist that teachers’ unions focus on academic success rather than divisive ideologies.”
Additionally, earlier this year, Fox News Digital reported that both unions have channeled millions into various left-wing causes, including donations to prominent leftist charities and support for Democratic political campaigns.
