A couple from California is under suspicion for the potential murder of their seven-month-old son, Emmanuel Halo.
Jake and Rebecca Halo face charges related to murder and filing a false police report. They informed authorities that their baby had been taken by a stranger near a sports merchandise store in San Bernardino on August 14.
Authorities noted inconsistencies in Rebecca’s account, sparking doubt about the parents’ credibility, although no specific details were given as to why they suspect Emmanuel might be dead. His body has yet to be found.
On the same day Emmanuel reportedly vanished, Riverside County Sheriff received a suspected child abuse report tied to a residence on Cottonwood Avenue in Moreno Valley, which is not too far from the store where Rebecca claimed an unseen man had attacked her and taken Emmanuel.
As per NBC 4, the couple also has a two-year-old daughter.
In a statement, authorities mentioned that the investigation is connected to the Halos, but did not provide further information regarding the child abuse report.
“On August 21, 2025, at around 12:30 PM, officials were called to the area on Cottonwood Avenue concerning allegations of child abuse. Investigators were dispatched to look into these claims.
Rebecca maintains that Emmanuel had nothing to do with the situation and expressed hope that he could still be alive.
“I just want to look for my baby… I won’t give up. I can’t give up on him,” she stated in an interview.
She described her husband as a “good dad” who “would never hurt the baby.”
However, Jake, age 32, has a prior conviction from 2023 related to child crimes.
On Sunday, Jake, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, was seen being escorted by police in Moreno Valley, although authorities clarified they were not part of the search effort.
This is an ongoing story, and updates are expected to follow.
