Paris Hilton’s New Documentary: A Journey of Reclamation
Paris Hilton felt like her life had come to a halt when an intimate video, meant to be private, was leaked for public viewing.
In her upcoming documentary titled “Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir,” the hotel heiress, known for her fragrances and DJ career, shares her story. The film showcases her preparations for a full concert at the Hollywood Palladium as she gears up for her album, also named *Infinite Icon*, set to release in 2024.
At 44, Hilton expressed to FOX News Digital that music played a crucial role in her recovery, especially during tough times following the release of that video featuring her and her then-boyfriend, Rick Salomon, when she was just 19. “Music saved my life,” she shared, referring to the solace it provided during her struggles.
Reflecting on the distress caused by the leak, Hilton recalled feeling utterly humiliated. “I never thought anyone would see this,” she confessed. “It was just humiliating. I felt like the whole world was watching me and laughing.” She described herself as a young woman emerging from trauma who chose the wrong partner for such a private matter.
She admitted, “It’s going to affect me forever. I don’t know if this wound will ever heal completely.”
The incident happened back in 2003 when she was promoting her reality show *The Simple Life* in Australia. Initially, there was disbelief when her manager notified her that a sex tape had been aired. But upon seeing the footage, reality set in, and soon after, the entire recording was released publicly.
In the documentary, Hilton explains that Salomon proposed the idea of filming the tape. At one point, he even suggested showing her other recordings to put her at ease, which she declined. “He didn’t have any feelings for me,” she remembered him saying, but eventually, he convinced her to proceed.
“That was one of the most painful experiences I ever had,” she reflected on the aftermath of the leak. “If I hadn’t gone through everything else, I think it would have been even worse.” The fear of losing everything she had worked for lingered over her.
Following the tape’s release, Hilton suddenly found herself the subject of countless jokes and parodies. In the documentary, she recalls admiring figures like Princess Diana and Grace Kelly and how the leak made her feel unworthy of their elegance and dignity. “I thought my life was over,” she said, recounting how deeply the incident affected her sense of self-worth.
Hilton later turned her pain into purpose, championing conversations surrounding consent and responsibility. She expressed a hope that by sharing her story, other women might avoid similar situations. “It’s difficult to trust people,” she noted, recognizing that some individuals take advantage of that trust.
Despite her past struggles, Hilton feels optimistic about the future, especially after marrying entrepreneur Carter Reum in 2021 and welcoming two children through surrogacy. “I feel so lucky to have met Carter at just the right time,” she said, feeling secure and supported now more than ever.
Looking to the future, Hilton has seen her brand soar, reportedly generating around $4 billion in consumer spending over the last decade and valuing her company at $1 billion. As she reflects on her journey, she acknowledges how much she has grown. “I’m always getting to know myself,” she said. “This film has been a journey of self-discovery.”
Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir premieres on January 30th.
