Paris Jackson shares struggles with addiction recovery after six years of sobriety

Paris Jackson Reflects on Six Years of Sobriety

Paris Jackson, the daughter of the late Michael Jackson, has been sober for six years now. However, she recently expressed that quitting drugs hasn’t magically transformed her life for the better.

In a heartfelt message to her fans, Jackson challenged the notion that sobriety automatically leads to peace and happiness. Rather, she shared that some of her most intense battles actually occurred after she stopped using substances.

“Being sober doesn’t always mean life is perfect,” she wrote. “Everything was very difficult for a few years. It felt like an eternity. Plus, I lacked the survival skills I needed to cope with life on a new schedule.” This raw insight gives a glimpse into her ongoing journey to recovery.

Jackson, 27, candidly spoke about her struggles with mental health after overcoming drug addiction. She described the condition known as treatment-resistant major depressive disorder as particularly challenging. “If you’re dealing with something similar, you’re not alone,” she reassured her followers. “Even if no one told me today that I love you, I still love you.”

Her emotional message was paired with a reflective video montage featuring moments from the past year—playing guitar, laughing with friends, and enjoying time with her dog.

Fans were quick to praise her honesty in the comments, calling her story both powerful and inspiring.

Previously, Jackson has been open about the impact of her addiction on her body and her experiences with mental health challenges. In a past video, she admitted that drugs had “ruined” her life, resulting in permanent damage such as a perforated septum.

In a lighthearted moment in a video, she humorously demonstrated the effects of her condition, explaining the loud whistling sound that occurs when breathing through her nose. “That’s because I have what’s called a perforated nasal septum,” she clarified.

At another point, she celebrated her five-year sobriety milestone, reflecting on her progress and expressing gratitude for her journey. “To say I’m grateful is a lame euphemism,” she shared with her followers.

Jackson continues to share her journey with the hope of connecting with others facing similar challenges.
