Three people were injured in a stabbing by a man at Gare de Lyon, the main train station in Paris, on Saturday. This is yet another security incident that has shaken the nerves in the Olympic host city ahead of the opening of the Summer Olympics in six months.
Paris police said officers quickly detained the attacker, who used a sharp weapon in the attack, around 8 a.m.
One of the injured was in critical condition. The other two suffered minor injuries.
Police have not released any other immediate details.
In a post on social media, Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin described the attack as an “intolerable act” and thanked those who had captured the perpetrators.
Security has been stepped up in Paris as the French capital prepares to welcome 10,500 Olympic athletes and millions of visitors to the Olympics for the first time in 100 years.
The Games will open on July 26th with a large outdoor ceremony along the Seine River, but security is a major issue in the city, which has suffered repeated terrorist attacks, mainly in 2015.
Most recently, in December, a man targeted passersby near the Eiffel Tower, killing one German tourist with a knife and seriously injuring two others.
Gare de Lyon is one of the busiest stations in Paris. It is a hub for high-speed rail links between the capital and other cities, as well as commuter trains linking suburbs and towns in the Paris region.
