Colorado Park Ranger Arrested in Alleged Stabbing Hoax
A park ranger in Colorado has been taken into custody following what authorities say was a fabricated story involving a stabbing incident. Callum Heskett, 26, was arrested on Thursday and faces serious charges including tampering with evidence and making false reports to officials. He’s also accused of reckless endangerment and misconduct while on duty.
According to investigators, discrepancies in Heskett’s account emerged during the inquiry. Initially, he had reported being attacked at Stanton State Park, claiming the assailant fled on foot. He provided detailed descriptions of the alleged attacker, prompting a significant search effort that included drones and led to safety alerts for nearby residents and school lockdowns.
“As the investigation continued, it became clear that there were contradictions in Heskett’s statements,” noted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. They indicated that these inconsistencies raised doubts about the legitimacy of his claims.
For a time, Heskett was at the center of a tense situation; after being airlifted to a hospital, police scoured the area looking for suspects. Thankfully, two individuals were interviewed and later released after being deemed unrelated to the incident. However, the Sheriff’s Office expressed concerns over the reliability of Heskett’s narrative.
Heskett currently remains in the hospital, recovering from his injuries, and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail once he is discharged. Authorities have affirmed their commitment to ongoing investigations, appreciating the collaboration with local law enforcement.
This episode has certainly drawn attention, raising questions about safety protocols and the responsibilities of public service. As more details unfold, it’s likely that the community will remain vigilant.
