The Week 2 standout for the Falcons is surprisingly new to the squad, to the point where he doesn’t quite seem to know the names of all his teammates yet.
Kicker Parker Romo, who was just promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, made a notable impact with a 54-yard field goal, achieving five successful kicks overall in the Falcons’ 22-6 away win against the Vikings.
When interviewed post-game by NBC’s Melissa Stark, Romo, who isn’t related to former quarterback Tony Romo, found himself surrounded by Buck Bidjan Robinson and Leonard Floyd. When Stark inquired about his familiarity with his teammates’ names, Romo admitted he was still getting to know them.
“You know their names, right?” Stark asked.
Romo responded, “I know Bihan,” gesturing toward the running back who had an impressive performance with 143 yards on 22 carries during the game.
“This is Leonard Floyd here,” Stark pointed out to him.
“Come on! He’s been in the league for 10 years and was picked 9th in the draft,” Romo chuckled, perhaps trying to ease the moment.
The 28-year-old had a brief tenure with the undrafted Saints, Lions, and Bears last year but didn’t actually play in an NFL game until facing the same Vikings he just defeated last season. He managed a perfect 11-for-11 in field goal attempts with Minnesota.
Just three weeks ago, he was released by the Patriots and signed with the Falcons’ practice squad last Tuesday.
Interestingly, he learned Saturday morning that he would get the chance to step up as the team’s kicker after the Falcons decided to rest Younghoe Koo.
He may have another shot at kicking for the Falcons against the Panthers next Sunday.
