California “Party Mom” Faces Charges for Hosting Teen Parties

A California woman, referred to as a “party mom,” is accused of organizing a wild party for her son and his teenage friends, reportedly pressuring them to stay silent afterward with the phrase, “what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.”

Shannon O’Connor, 50, confronted her own words in court on Tuesday as prosecutors presented texts she allegedly sent via Snapchat to her son and his freshman friends.

She has been charged with multiple offenses for allegedly facilitating illegal sex parties at her home in Los Gatos and a vacation rental, where sexual misconduct reportedly took place.

During a Las Vegas trip in the summer of 2020, O’Connor’s 14-year-old son asked in a group chat for “the best beer,” according to texts that emerged in the case.

O’Connor seemed unfazed by the request. She responded with, “I’m depressed. Champagne? [Let’s] Went to the pool and had a lot of drinks,” and later texted, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

The messages, mostly sent on Snapchat, were largely deleted within 24 hours unless manually saved by users.

It’s unclear if O’Connor’s husband was present during the Las Vegas trip. A witness testified that she was told to find alcohol only after her husband left.

A video introduced in court depicted a vibrant pool party at O’Connor’s $4 million home in May 2020, where several boys were seen enjoying themselves with country music playing loudly in the background.

Investigators noted that O’Connor filmed the event from her kitchen, overlooking the backyard. Many victims mentioned that hot tubs were where most of the alleged assaults occurred.

Twelve female and eight male victims have been identified, all attending O’Connor’s gatherings, where she reportedly directed students on who would have sex and who would film the acts.

A witness recalled feeling trapped around O’Connor after leaving her son and described her as “terrifyingly calm” while cleaning up after the teens.

O’Connor is currently facing 63 charges related to the alleged parties throughout the 2020 and 2021 school years.
