The Court of Common Pleas has ruled that a software malfunction caused a ballot scanning problem in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. extend Voting hours will be extended by two hours from 8pm to 10pm.
The Pennsylvania Department of State tweeted Tuesday morning:
The Department of State is in contact with Cambria County officials. Voters are continuing to vote with paper ballots as per normal operations, but the county is resolving the issue with scanning within school districts. We will work with counties to resolve this technical issue and remain committed to ensuring free, fair, safe, and secure elections. ”
The issue involved machines that scan paper ballots. The machine would stop scanning and the voter would be given the choice of placing the ballot in a locked box and trusting that their vote would be properly scanned (and therefore counted) after the issue was resolved; or I was given the option of being asked to return the same day.
Cambria county commissioners apply for state of emergency request To extend voting time, WTAJ Altoona reported:
The board filed a court order extending the voting period in Cambria County. No one who wishes to vote should be denied a vote. The Cambria County Board of Elections has taken steps to bring in IT experts to investigate the software issue. We have processes in place for these types of issues. All completed ballots will be received, secured and counted by the Board of Elections. The County Board of Elections has installed high-speed voting machines in precincts to continue to allow electronic voting, while also allowing for hand voting.
The request was immediately granted.
Cambria is an important county for Republicans. In 2020, Trump will be told: beat Biden won there by 37 points, 68-31 percent. Trump received 48,085 votes and Biden 21,730.
With polls showing Pennsylvania virtually tied and the Electoral College reporting that Pennsylvania is very likely to decide the outcome of the election, Cambria County could make the difference.
