A woman who was assaulted as a child by the alleged killer of 11-year-old Audrey Cunningham has spoken out about her own nightmarish ordeal. The girl breaks down in tears as she realizes how much she too might have faced the same fate as the one who was killed.
Carissa Davis, now in her 20s, was 10 years old when Don McDougall assaulted her during a family gathering at her uncle’s home in March 2007 in Brasonia County, Texas. ABC13 reported.
McDougall’s sisters, who are friends of the family, told the outlet that they brought her with them.
“He came into the room where me and my cousin were sleeping,” Davis told ABC 13.
She said McDougall pulled her cousin out of bed and jumped in with him.
“(He) tried to pull down my pants and at that moment I jumped up,” Davis told the magazine. “I remember when I saw him, I was like, ‘Do you know how old I am?’ ”
She said she ran to the door, but the demon chased her.
“He grabbed me and at that moment I just swung my arms and hit him,” Davis said, adding that he continued to chase her but managed to call her aunt before she found him. added.
Ms Davis said when a photo of the violent man appeared after Audrey disappeared, she immediately recognized Mr McDougall. Now she wonders what would have happened if she hadn’t run away from him that night.
“Everyone was still sleeping. I mean, my uncle’s backyard was a forest. I mean, it could have been me,” she told the outlet.
McDougal pleaded no contest to two charges and was found guilty of child enticement in connection with the incident, KHOU 11 reported, citing court records.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, but Davis said he thinks he should have stayed longer.
“I think Brazoria County has definitely let me down, let Mr. Audrey down, and maybe even more,” she told ABC 13, noting that she was not required to register as a sex offender. .
McDougall is charged with capital murder in the death of Audrey, whose body was found tied to a rock at the bottom of the Trinity River six days after she disappeared.
The Livingston, Texas, girl died from “homicidal violence, including blunt head trauma,” according to the Harris County Coroner’s Office.
Audrey was reported missing on February 15 after failing to catch the school bus or attending class. Officials said she was last seen by her family friend, McDougall.
Investigators believe she was murdered on the same day she went missing.
According to the indictment, McDougall lived in a camper on his family’s property.
The suspect allegedly walked Audrey to the bus stop, then killed her, tied her to a large rock and dumped her body in a river.
The suspect, a neo-Nazi with ties to the Aryan Brotherhood, is seen in photos with a swastika tattoo on his right arm.
Records show he was arrested on February 16 on an unrelated assault charge and was still in the Polk County Jail when Audrey’s body was discovered.
He is currently being held without bond.
