Steve Lawson, senior preacher at Trinity Bible Church in Dallas and president of One Passion Ministries, has been removed from his pastorate for an “inappropriate relationship” with an unidentified woman.
Lawson also resigned from “all roles in One Passion ministry,” according to a statement on the One Passion website, which concluded his actions were “a disqualifying offense for the ministry.”
But the 73-year-old pastor is not the only pastor to come under accusation of sexual misconduct.
In June, Tony Evans, pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas, resigned from his position as pastor citing “sin.” Evans had been a pastor for decades before the incident.
Just days later, Robert Morris, founding pastor of Southlake, Texas-based Gateway Church, resigned as senior pastor following allegations of sexual misconduct, including child sexual abuse.
“This is the third Dallas-area pastor that we've spoken with over the past few months who has committed or confessed to some kind of sin.” Allie Beth Stuckey The author of “Relatable” exclaims in dismay:
While Lawson reportedly confessed that he “regrets the harm” caused by his actions, Stuckey points out that he never confessed to regretting his crimes and that no statements reflect that he confessed of his own volition or that he repented of his sins.
“I have yet to hear that he has repented, and I hope so,” Stuckey said in a statement. “I sincerely hope and pray that he does, for himself, for his heart and soul, for his loving wife of decades, and for his children and grandchildren.”
