The pastor who wrote the book that inspired the new Prime Video movie believes that the key to building solid, enduring relationships lies in biblical teachings.
Mike Todd, the pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is also a bestselling author. His book, relationship goals, emerged from a sermon series about the biblical framework for love, marriage, and family. The new romantic comedy on Prime Video, which shares the same title, centers on a television producer aspiring to become the first woman in charge of a major New York morning show, only to find herself in competition with her ex-boyfriend. The film was produced by Devon Franklin, known for Leap Forward and Jesus Revolution.
“If you look at social media, it’s clear there’s a toxic culture surrounding relationships,” Todd remarked in an interview. “There are beliefs out there that really have no grounding. I have many conversations with individuals who have suffered due to past relationship failures.”
Todd went on to describe various painful outcomes linked to failed relationships, like unexpected pregnancies, divorces, and business struggles. He noted that many people enter relationships without a sound moral foundation.
“When your relationship with God is right and you’re in a healthy place with yourself, then you can foster better connections with others,” Todd explained. “Focusing on this can transform your whole life. I’ve witnessed it firsthand.”
He believes that the yearning for connection is intrinsic to human nature.
“Ultimately, what people long for when they go home is to feel cared for,” he elaborated. “They seek love and a deep understanding. They want to feel that someone values their existence, and their need for relationships is fundamental.”
