Rev. Rob McCoy Leads Memorial Service for Charlie Kirk
Rev. Rob McCoy, who co-chairs California’s Turning Point Faith and is known as “Charlie’s Pastor,” led a memorial service for Charlie Kirk on Sunday, September 21st, in Glendale, Arizona, which followed performances by various Christian artists. McCoy has stood by the Kirk family during this painful time following Kirk’s tragic death.
Recently retired from his 25-year role at God Speak Calvary Chapel in Thousand Oaks, California, McCoy had celebrated Kirk’s presence at his own anniversary event in August.
During his speech, McCoy reflected on Kirk’s young life, saying, “Charlie Kirk has spent more life on this planet in 31 years… 31 years. We all have our whole self.” He noted feeling a sense of concern from the Turning Point staff about Kirk’s absence and the impact it would have.
“I saw each of them,” McCoy stated, pointing out the instead, as a negative example, that the absence of Kirk was felt even more as Turning Point faced one of its biggest events in history.
McCoy praised Kirk’s strong faith, recalling how Kirk entrusted his life to Jesus at a young age. “Charlie knew… when he was a child… he entrusted his life to the Savior of the world,” McCoy said, indicating the significance of Kirk’s faith journey.
He emphasized the importance of Kirk’s message, adding, “His blood was poured out because blood must be shed for remission of sin… His death on that cross was sufficient for all the world’s sins, but efficient for those who, like Charlie, would receive him as his Savior.”
In closing, McCoy encouraged attendees to take action based on their faith and to embrace God, emphasizing that Kirk viewed politics as a pathway to Jesus. He expressed that if people could connect to freedom, they would ultimately reach its source: the Lord.
