Megachurch Pastor Suspends House Candidacy Amid Fundraising Scandal

Jackson Rahmeyer, the pastor of a megachurch, has announced he is stepping back from his run for the U.S. House of Representatives after some questionable fundraising messages came to light.

Interestingly, he made this decision on the same day former President Trump shifted his endorsement to his opponent in the Republican primary, Oklahoma Rep. Mark Telford. Reports indicate that Rahmeyer’s campaign was already under scrutiny due to the emergence of inappropriate texts between him and a former Miss Oklahoma USA, Caitlin Simmons-Key, who was assisting with fundraising.

“I don’t want to stand in the way of my family, my church, and the great people of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District,” Rahmeyer commented.

The texts revealed by the Daily Mail showed Rahmeyer turning down cocaine after a party and sending compliments to Simmons-Key, describing her as “super skinny and super cute.” He acknowledged sharing too much and implied there were some “crossed boundaries,” but maintained that their relationship wasn’t romantic.

Rahmeyer, who is married and has five children, previously enjoyed endorsements from notable figures like House Speaker Mike Johnson and Turning Point Action. He leads Sheridan.Church, a prominent church in Oklahoma, and has faced backlash for comments some have deemed anti-Semitic.

Following the scandal, Trump rescinded his support for Rahmeyer, publicly backing Telford instead. “I deeply appreciate Jackson Rahmeyer’s hard work under difficult circumstances. He is always with me, and I will always be with him,” Trump stated, though he later clarified his endorsement for Telford, calling him a true “America First Patriot” who would not let his supporters down.
