Pastor Threatened with a Gun at Funeral – Guest Opinion

11 People Charged in Scheme to Obtain Citizenship

Funerals usually evoke feelings of sadness and tranquility, but a recent service in Detroit took an unexpected turn. During a young man’s funeral, threats emerged, and a gun was drawn.

On March 28, 2026, a service organized by Pastor Dalsanian Nichols took place at New McFall Brothers Funeral Home for Jabari Malik Kenny, who tragically lost his life to gun violence at just 17. While the service aimed to celebrate his life and encourage attendees to live purposefully, the atmosphere shifted when a distraught attendee threatened Nichols with a firearm, demanding silence.

Despite this alarming incident, Nichols reported that, fortunately, everyone remained unharmed. “First, I have to give a shout-out to New McFall,” he expressed. “Their commitment to treating families with dignity and respect truly stands out. No matter the circumstances, compassion is key.”

Julius J. Baker, another pastor and funeral director, noted that the team at the funeral home managed the situation with professionalism. “It was a regrettable moment during a time meant for mourning, but our staff maintained their composure and prioritized the family’s needs,” he stated.

Baker emphasized the heavy burden of violence in the community, especially during such sensitive times. “Sadly, in our cities, even amidst grief, some still overlook the value of life. Yet, amid this, there was a sense of divine presence,” he remarked.

In the end, amidst the chaos, ten attendees found spiritual solace, and Ms. Nichols left the service with a sense of peace from God.
