Pat Freiermuth Steps In for Youth Camp
Pat Freiermuth is coming to the rescue. Organizers for a youth football camp have announced that, after George Pickens backed out of his commitment following a trade, Freiermuth will step in to lead the event.
“Last week, we were informed by George’s team that he decided to revert to his previous stance and will not be attending the camp,” the organizers clarified.
Despite this hiccup, they remain committed to making the event a fantastic experience. Immediately upon learning of Pickens’ decision, they coordinated to secure Freiermuth as a guest at the camp.
Pickens’ future with the Steelers became uncertain after the last season. He faced penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and showed up late to a game.
This past May, the Steelers officially traded him to the Cowboys, acquiring future draft picks in return. In 14 games last season, Pickens managed to catch 59 passes for 900 yards, scoring three touchdowns.
The camp has now been rescheduled for July 20th at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, following the unexpected change in Pickens’ plans.
Before his cancellation, the team was prepared to host the camp this Saturday, believing Pickens would uphold his commitment. The organizers expressed disappointment, suggesting that his actions showed a lack of accountability towards the families and kids eagerly anticipating his attendance.
Attendees will still have a chance to connect with Freiermuth, who has spent all four years of his NFL career with the Steelers, racking up 2,190 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
