Pat McAfee praises the ESPN-WWE agreement while criticizing company leaders.

Pat McAfee is excited about the recent collaboration between ESPN and WWE, marking a significant milestone with their latest deal to broadcast major live events. However, in his celebration, he didn’t shy away from criticizing some individuals at ESPN.

On X, McAfee expressed his congratulations to both ESPN and WWE for finalizing their partnership, which was announced on Wednesday. He described it as a great merging of sports and entertainment. But he also noted, with perhaps a hint of frustration, that some staff at ESPN seem to be complicating matters unnecessarily, possibly through leaked information or uninformed opinions.

Reflecting on past tensions, McAfee mentioned his difficulties with ESPN management. Specifically, he called out Norby Williamson, claiming the executive attempted to disrupt his show in 2024.

This new WWE-ESPN deal is reportedly valued at $1.6 billion over the next five years and will enable ESPN to feature significant WWE events like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble. McAfee, a devoted wrestling fan and former WWE commentator, left the organization earlier this year due to scheduling conflicts. Still, he remains well-informed about developments, even after joining ESPN with a lucrative five-year contract worth $85 million. He’s made it clear that he values his independence, famously stating, “I don’t have a motherf—-boss.”

In other news, ESPN has also made headlines by acquiring a stake in the NFL network, offering a variety of NFL-related channels and services as part of that agreement. Clearly, ESPN is making waves, reshaping the landscape of sports television.
