Pat McAfee to Host Alternate Football Broadcast for NFL, Including Super Bowl

Pat McAfee is set to introduce his unique football broadcast style to the NFL, including the upcoming Super Bowl.

On “The Pat McAfee Show,” he revealed that “Field Pass” will be part of the Super Bowl 2027, which is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Additionally, the show will cover select “Monday Night Football” games this season, kicking off with the matchup between the Commanders and the 49ers on October 19.

McAfee expressed that it was somewhat of a dream to bring “Field Pass” to NFL games, particularly after experiencing success with college football broadcasts. He mentioned the strong relationship ESPN has with the NFL as a reason for this opportunity.

Joining McAfee for the NFL broadcasts will be analyst and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky, whereas former linebacker A.J. Hawk will continue his involvement with the college football segment.

The “Field Pass” format will place McAfee and his team close to the action on the field, delivering live commentary and analysis during the games, a departure from traditional booth setups.

Previously, McAfee was joined by Hawk, Darius Butler, and other guests for college football broadcasts.

This alternate broadcast format made its debut during the 2024-25 College Football Playoff semifinals and, notably, the Rose Bowl this year drew an impressive average of 2.4 million viewers.

Super Bowl 2027 will mark ESPN’s first foray into producing the NFL championship game since securing rights with the league.

The typical broadcast will be available on ESPN and ABC, with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman expected to commentate.

ESPN is also planning to air a separate “ManningCast” featuring Peyton and Eli Manning.

McAfee, who previously played for the Colts, is active on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and joined “Monday Night Countdown” this season.
