Pat Tillman's brother facing serious mental health struggles following car accident

Richard Tillman Involved in Crash

Richard Tillman, brother of the late NFL player and military hero Pat Tillman, was involved in a crash at a San Jose post office on Sunday morning. His family has revealed that Richard has struggled with serious mental health issues for some time.

Kevin Tillman, another brother, shared that Richard was “live streaming” during the incident. He mentioned that Richard identified himself to police at the scene, stating, “I’m Pat Tillman’s brother.” The crash resulted in a fire that engulfed the post office.

Kevin expressed relief that there were no physical injuries to any family members. He acknowledged their limited information but emphasized that they are communicating with local authorities to provide background regarding Richard’s situation.

“It’s well-known that Richard has faced considerable mental health challenges over the years,” Kevin noted. He mentioned that Richard’s behavior had changed visibly on social media, making it hard to ensure he receives appropriate care.

According to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s records, Richard was arrested on suspicion of arson and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 3 a.m. and took about 50 firefighters roughly an hour and a half to extinguish the flames.

Pat Tillman, an Arizona Cardinals player, famously left his football career to join the U.S. Army following the September 11 attacks. He served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before his death in Afghanistan, which was initially reported as enemy fire but later attributed to friendly fire. In 2007, the Pentagon classified it as a “coincidence.”
