Podcast Predictions on 2028 Election
In a recent episode of the “PBD Podcast,” Patrick Bett-David shared a prediction that Democrats might focus on strengthening President Donald Trump’s image to better compete against Vice President J.D. Vance in the upcoming 2028 race. This discussion followed comedian and podcaster Adam Carolla’s assertion that Vance could potentially secure the election, attributing this to Trump’s favorable handling of the situation involving Hamas and a peace agreement he brokered.
Bett-David anticipates that Democrats will argue that Vance won’t be able to replicate Trump’s effectiveness. Carolla, acknowledging Vance’s chances, emphasized the need for victories, saying, “If Trump continues to rack up wins… the next person has to be an extension of Trump.” It seems there’s a recognition that maintaining a certain momentum is vital.
During the episode, there was a lively exchange among the co-hosts regarding Vance’s likelihood of an easy victory. Bett-David also commented on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s position, with co-host Adam Sosnick suggesting he would not only be a nominee but would win the election. Bett-David advised Democrats to avoid underestimating Vance, saying, “During the general election, Democrats are going to hear that J.D. Vance is not Trump. They’re going to strengthen Trump.” He believes this perception won’t become clear until closer to the election, perhaps around mid-2028.
Currently, Newsom seems to lead among potential Democratic candidates, garnering 21% support from primary voters, according to a recent Yahoo/YouGov poll. Former Vice President Kamala Harris followed closely with 19%, while Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez captured 12%.
On the Republican side, Vance is viewed as a strong frontrunner with an average of 47% support among potential candidates. This puts him ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio, both of whom are in a tighter race for second place.
