Mahomes’ Season Cut Short by Injury
Just hours after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Patrick Mahomes took to social media to share his feelings with fans, a visibly pained expression on his face.
So, that’s it—Mahomes’ season is over.
And, as a result, the Kansas City Chiefs’ season has come to an end.
Despite the tough news, the star quarterback expressed his gratitude towards Chiefs Kingdom for their unwavering support and made a promise to come back stronger.
“I don’t really get why this had to happen. And honestly, it hurts,” he said in a post. “But all we can do now is trust in God and keep pushing every day. A big thank you to Chiefs Kingdom for always being there, reaching out, and sending prayers. I’ll come back stronger than ever.”
Mahomes got injured during the second half of a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, which ended in a 16-13 loss for Kansas City. He was tackled shortly after releasing the ball, and it was clear from the start that he was in serious pain, needing assistance to return to the locker room.
Later, the team announced that an MRI confirmed the torn ACL and mentioned that Patrick and the organization are discussing surgical options.
The emotional impact of the injury extended beyond Mahomes. His teammates reacted, with Chris Jones sharing, “I just hugged him. That’s my little brother. We’ve shared a lot. We love Pat.”
Meanwhile, quarterback Gardner Minshew II expressed confidence that Mahomes will return to lead the team again. “I’ve never had more respect for the players I play with. They give so much to the team,” he noted, adding that he believes Mahomes will come back even better.
With just three games remaining in the season, the Chiefs are officially out of playoff contention.
