Mahomes Sets New Record
The Kansas City Chiefs have revamped star QB Patrick Mahomes’ contract, making him the first player in NFL history to sign a deal exceeding $500 million. That’s quite a milestone.
His current contract is valued at $504.75 million, with a new addition worth $239.05 million. They’ve also extended the agreement by two years, now lasting from 2026 to 2033.
This contract averages out to an impressive $64 million annually, setting a record for the NFL.
When he originally signed, Mahomes’ deal was guaranteed for four years. Depending on the contract’s specifics, the entire $504.75 million might be guaranteed.
Previously, Mahomes signed a contract in 2020 that reset QB market standards, valued at $450 million over 10 years.
Kansas City has now reset the quarterback market three times in six years, committing a total of $689.05 million in new money to Mahomes.
This marks the sixth time the Chiefs have adjusted his contract.
Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt expressed his admiration for Mahomes, saying, “Over the past decade, Patrick has become one of the most iconic and beloved sports figures of all time. He has led our franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships, playing a key role in shaping the Chiefs brand and elevating Kansas City globally. Most importantly, he serves as a fantastic role model in the community.”
Hunt added, “Patrick is a generational talent and an elite human being, and I’m very excited to have him continue to lead our team.”
Now in his 10th season with the Chiefs, Mahomes boasts impressive stats—35,939 passing yards, 267 touchdowns, and a QB rating of 100.8.
Since 2020, he’s helped the team achieve three Super Bowl victories, the latest being Super Bowl 58 in 2024.
Currently, Mahomes is recovering from an ACL and LCL tear he sustained in December, but there’s optimism that he’ll be ready for the season opener against the Broncos.
