Patrick Mahomes expressed his determination to return “stronger than ever” after suffering a significant injury during the Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff exit against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he mentioned, “I don’t know why this had to happen. And I’m not going to lie, it hurts,” acknowledging the impact of the moment.
He continued, “But all we can do now is believe in God and attack again and again every day. Thank you to the Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me, reaching out and sending prayers. I will come back stronger than ever,” wrapping up his message on a hopeful note.
During the game at Arrowhead Stadium, the quarterback was knocked to the ground by a defender. He took some time before getting back up and limping to the sideline.
This loss marks the first time since 2014 that the Chiefs will not be heading to the playoffs. They have made it to the Super Bowl the last two years, winning in 2024 and losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025.
The Chiefs still have three games left in the 2025 season, with their next matchup set for December 21. There’s hope for Mahomes to recover and complete the season; he has previously mentioned wanting to enjoy the time he has left playing with his close friend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who might retire soon.
Mahomes shared his feelings in a press conference after a defeat against the Houston Texans on December 8, saying, “I’m just going to cherish every season I’ve had with him over the last few years, because you never know.”
Speaking about Kelce, Mahomes noted, “He has returned to great form this year and has been playing great football,” adding that Kelce would give his maximum effort this season to help the team. However, he also admitted that it’s clear the Chiefs have encountered challenges this year, and “the odds are getting less and less likely” for a playoff berth.
