Patrick Mahomes Returns to Practice

Patrick Mahomes is making a comeback.

The star quarterback for the Chiefs was spotted moving around and throwing passes in a recent video, just three months after sustaining a torn ACL that derailed Kansas City’s season.

“One day at a time!” the 30-year-old Mahomes shared on his Instagram Story. “I’m really happy I was able to throw the ball today!”

Since December 14, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in a 16-13 loss against the Chargers, Mahomes hasn’t played, which ultimately dashed the Chiefs’ playoff aspirations.

“I really don’t understand why this had to happen. Honestly, it hurts,” Mahomes stated on X after his injury. “But we can only trust in God and keep pushing forward every day. A big thank you to Chiefs Kingdom for your support, reaching out, and sending prayers. I’ll come back stronger than ever.”

Following his injury, Mahomes had surgery to repair both his left ACL and LCL in December, as the Chiefs wrapped up a disappointing season with a 6-11 record.

In an effort to rebound, the Chiefs have signed Super Bowl 2026 MVP Kenneth Walker III from the Seahawks to a three-year deal that could be worth up to $45 million.

The organization is also backing their longtime tight end, Travis Kelce, who has been contemplating retirement while getting ready for his wedding to fiancée Taylor Swift.

Mahomes is eager to return to the field, especially with a dependable target. However, it remains uncertain when this three-time Super Bowl champion will be back in action.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer recently reported that Mahomes’ recovery is ahead of schedule.

“He just has a different pain threshold and a unique work ethic,” Glazer mentioned on “The Dan Patrick Show.” “They initially thought, ‘Oh, it’s the start of the season,’ but I think he’ll be back well before that because he tackles everything head-on.”

To prepare for any possibility, the Chiefs have also added Justin Fields after trading with the Jets, just in case Mahomes isn’t ready to kick off the season.

Last year, Mahomes played in 14 games, racking up 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
