Kansas City Chiefs’ Win Over Detroit Lions Marred by Postgame Altercation
After the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night, Patrick Mahomes, the team’s star quarterback, wasn’t keen on dwelling on the chaos that unfolded. Following the game, an incident occurred when Lions defensive back Brian Branch disregarded Mahomes’ handshake attempt and became involved in a heated confrontation with Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. This escalated into Branch pushing Smith-Schuster, resulting in a brief but intense scuffle before both teams retreated to the locker rooms.
When NBC’s Melissa Stark questioned Mahomes about the scuffle, he said, “We play between the whistles. They can do all the extracurricular activities they want to do, but we play games between the whistles.” His demeanor shifted dramatically, his usual smile replaced with a more serious expression as he focused forward.
In the postgame press conference, Mahomes attempted to address the fracas: “That’s just the way it is at the moment. We have to move on. We won the football game, we did well, but now we’re looking to the Raiders.” There’s also the possibility that Branch could face fines or even a suspension due to his involvement in the altercation.
The Chiefs secured a 30-17 win, bringing their season record to 3-3.
