Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes says it's not his place to specifically endorse a presidential candidate, despite Donald Trump claiming that Mahomes' wife is a fan.
Mahomes spoke at a press conference about Trump Recent Comments Mahomes' wife, Brittany, said on Fox News that she is a “huge Trump fan.”
Without endorsing any particular candidate, Mahomes said he sees his purpose in politics as more general.
“I think I've always said that I don't want my position or my platform to be used to endorse any candidate or for any other purpose,” Mahomes said. He told reporters“I think my role is to let people know to register to vote, to let people know to do their research and make the best decision for themselves and their family. So every time I stand on this stage and get asked these questions, I'm going to remember that, because I think that's what makes America so great.”
An earlier report from The Blaze News revealed that the NFL player's wife had “liked” a photo of Trump's campaign pledge.
After receiving some harsh criticism, Mrs. Mahomes released a public statement slamming her critics.
“Let's be honest, feeling hatred as an adult means you have deep-rooted issues from childhood that you're refusing to heal,” she wrote on Instagram. “It's impossible to have a fully developed brain and still hate seeing other people doing well.”
Trump responded to the incident: message On Truth Social, he thanked Brittany Mahomes for “defending” him.
“I want to thank the beautiful Brittany Mahomes for her strong defense of me and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful political movement in the history of our country that is now in decline,” Trump wrote.
“I don't think about their political views.”
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was also asked about his recent interactions with teammate Travis Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift, who recently endorsed Kamala Harris. The reporter's question alluded to the idea that the Mahomes have different political leanings than other celebrity couples.
“Is that an important image to show? People with different philosophies?” the reporter asked.
“I've grown up with people from all walks of life and backgrounds,” Mahomes said, adding that he's always hopeful that people with different beliefs can come together to achieve a common goal.
“I think if we can do that as a nation, we can bring out the best in each other,” Mahomes explained. “And I do that every day, and when I go out with anybody, I don't think about their political views. I think about them and how they treat other people.”
