Patrick Mahomes sprang into action Monday to protect his 3-year-old daughter, Sterling, who looked up into the sky toward the sun without safety glasses during the solar eclipse.
In a video shared by his wife, Brittany Mahomes, the Chiefs’ star quarterback can be seen moving quickly towards Sterling as the little girl begins to look up at the moon blocking out the sun.
“Don’t look, Sterling,” Brittany can be heard saying on Instagram Stories as Mahomes extends his arm like a shield.
Staring directly at space phenomena without safety glasses can damage retinal cells and even lead to partial blindness.
Mahomes, 28, enjoyed the highly anticipated event with his family on Monday, while Brittany, also 28, documented the eclipse viewing party on social media.
In one clip, Brittany is seen holding Sterling while the two look up while wearing special glasses.
In another post shared by Brittany, the Mahomes’ youngest son, 1-year-old son Bronze, appeared to be hiding in the shade.
It’s been a family-filled offseason for Mahomes, just two months removed from the day the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.
