Patrick Mahomes shares an inside view of his recovery in a New Year’s Eve post.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to be in good spirits while celebrating New Year’s Eve with his family, as seen in a photo posted by his wife, Brittany.

Despite recently undergoing surgery for a torn ACL sustained in a game against the Chargers on December 14, he seemed joyful, surrounded by his children: daughter Starling, 4, son Bronze, 3, and daughter Golden, who is about to turn 1 this month.

Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champion, donned a casual sweatshirt and shorts while using crutches, and wore black leg sleeves and braces.

He suffered the knee injury near the end of the Chiefs’ 16-13 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15, leading to surgery the following day to repair not just the ACL but also LCL damage.

Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew took over after Mahomes’ injury, but threw an interception, sealing the unfortunate loss and marking the Chiefs’ elimination from playoff possibilities for the first time since Mahomes joined the team.

In a virtual press conference on Monday, head coach Andy Reid mentioned that Mahomes is back in the facility working hard on his recovery.

“Yes, he’s around,” Reid said, adding that Mahomes is dedicated to his rehabilitation while also being involved with his teammates.

“He’s been proactive and continues to put in the effort. He’s been spending a lot of time focusing on that,” Reid noted.

During Christmas night, Mahomes was seen watching the Chiefs’ home game against the Broncos, though Reid confirmed that he won’t be traveling for the upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Yeah, probably not,” the coach stated, emphasizing that it won’t happen right away.
