Former Mets pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested Saturday in Tyler, Texas, on a charge of third or greater DWI, according to jail records.
Mahomes Sr., who attended his son’s playoff game this year, was arrested eight days before he was scheduled to play in the 2024 Super Bowl against the 49ers on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.
In 2018, Mahomes Sr. was charged with a second DWI and spent 40 days in jail on weekends in 2019 and 2020.
Mahomes Sr., 53, played 11 seasons in MLB and pitched for the Mets in the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
Mahomes, the eldest son, has been supporting his son during the playoffs and told WFAN he previously sat in a suite with Taylor Swift, but he won’t be in the AFC since they weren’t together in the divisional round against the Bills. Ta. He also played in the championship game against the Ravens.
“No, I don’t think so,” Mahomes Sr. said on Jan. 25. “Travis usually has his own thing, Patrick has his own contract,” Mahomes Sr. said.
When the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, Mahomes Sr. was there and smoked a celebratory cigar.
Two weeks ago, when the Chiefs beat the Bengals in the AFC Championship game, he joked that he was “smoking that Joe Burrow,” then said he was smoking a “Philly Blunt.”
According to People, Mahomes Sr. and his ex-wife Randy, the Chiefs quarterback’s mother, divorced in 2006.
The couple’s other son, Jackson Mahomes, got into trouble with the law last year.
Jackson was arrested in May on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault after allegedly assaulting a restaurant owner in February last year.
The charges against Jackson were dropped last month after a judge approved a request from prosecutors to drop the charges.
