Patrick Mahomes Sr. will not be in the spotlight at the 2024 Super Bowl, but he did make a trip to Las Vegas after his third DWI arrest.
Jackson Mahomes shared a photo of Mahomes Sr. on the field after his brother led the Chiefs to a 25-22 overtime win over the 49ers at Allegiant Stadium.
The first photo showed his family together, including his mother Randy, and the second photo showed Patrick Sr. hugging him after the game, with the caption, “Special moment.”
Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Saturday, February 3rd by the Tyler Police Department in Smith County, Texas, and charged with “Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More Offense.”
According to an affidavit obtained by the newspaper, the man had a 16-ounce Coors beer in the center console when he was stopped by police.
When asked why he had been drinking while driving, Mahomes Sr. told police he had “drank a few beers while watching a game at a local bar,” according to the affidavit.
According to Texas law, the former Mets pitcher faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for his third DWI.
His last DWI arrest was in 2019, according to jail records.
Mahomes Sr. played 11 years in MLB, including two seasons with the Mets in 1999-2000, posting a combined ERA of 4.74 with Queen’s.
On opening night of the Super Bowl, Mahomes was asked about his father’s arrest.
“Yeah, he’s doing great,” Mahomes said. “I don’t want to get into too much detail, but he’s doing well under all circumstances. This is a family matter so I’ll keep it a secret from my family and that’s all I really want to say at this point.”
After leading a touchdown drive in overtime, the younger Mahomes became the fifth quarterback in history to win three Super Bowls, joining Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman. .
