Patrick Mahomes Tricks Announcers and Raiders Defense

In a recent matchup, Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes managed to completely baffle CBS announcers Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, along with possibly the Las Vegas Raiders defense, during the second quarter.

With the Chiefs facing a crucial 4th-and-1 decision to start the quarter, Mahomes had a few options to consider. They could attempt to draw the Raiders offside, run a quarterback sneak for the first down, or accept a penalty that would push them back for a punt. It seemed like Mahomes was, perhaps, trying to bait the Raiders into committing a penalty.

He moved his teammates Travis Kelce and running back Brashard Smith, exchanging some choice words before taking the snap.

“This is never going to work, dude,” he quipped.

When the ball was snapped, Nantz and Romo were taken by surprise. Romo seemed sure Mahomes would lead the Raiders’ defense, but in a twist, he handed the ball to running back Kareem Hunt, who successfully gained the needed first down.

Throughout the game, Mahomes maintained his composure, completing 26 of 35 passes for a total of 286 yards and three touchdown passes, leading the Chiefs to a 31-0 victory. Gardner Minshew II took over for Mahomes after the third quarter.

In a side note, nine Chiefs players, including Laci Rice, participated in catch plays. Rice made a notable return after serving a six-game suspension and recovering from a torn ACL, catching seven passes for 42 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Marquise Brown also contributed with a touchdown catch.

The Chiefs’ defense was impressive too, limiting Raiders quarterback Geno Smith to just 67 passing yards, while rookie Ashton Giunty managed only 21 rushing yards.

As the season stands, the Chiefs are now at 4 wins and 3 losses, while the Raiders are 5-2.
