‘Patriot Worthy of Our Support’

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (Democrat) issued a statement endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, calling her a “patriot” who deserves the support of the party and voters.

In a statement issued Shapiro wrote Sunday night that he has known Harris for “almost two decades” and that the “best path forward for the party” was to “unite in support” of Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.

Shapiro’s endorsement of Harris came hours after President Joe Biden endorsed her. Announced He argued that it was in the party’s “best interest” to “stand aside” to seek reelection. issued He also stated that he “fully endorses and supports” Harris as the party’s nominee.

“I have known Kamala Harris for nearly two decades. We are both prosecutors, we have both stood up for the rule of law, we have both fought for our people, and we have both delivered results,” Shapiro wrote. “Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support, and she will carry on the work of generations of Americans before us – perfecting our Union, protecting our democracy, and advancing true freedom.”

“She has served our country honorably as vice president and is ready to be president,” Shapiro added.

Shapiro’s endorsement comes as the Democratic Party is in turmoil following Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race.

Several Democrats attended, including former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Rep. George W. Bush. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) issued a statement endorsing Harris as their party’s nominee.

Other Democrats, such as former presidents Barack Obama Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a statement in response to Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the presidential race, but did not endorse Harris as the party’s nominee.

“The best path forward for Democrats is to quickly unify behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency,” Shapiro added. “The contrasts in this race could not be clearer, and the path to victory in November runs through Pennsylvania, where this joint effort began. I will do everything in my power to see Kamala Harris elected as the 47th president of the United States.”
