After students showed their patriotism on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus earlier this week by preventing the American flag from falling to the ground and singing the national anthem, Rutgers University students followed suit.

“Towards the end of yesterday’s encampment, a few students who I think were patriotic went onto campus and they were obviously yelling ‘America!’ They sang the national anthem,” Rutgers University student, Class of 2025 Jeremy Lee, told Fox News Digital on Friday. “Perhaps they were defending American values despite the contradictory turmoil that has been occurring on campus lately.”

Lee added that he thought the counter-protesters were “great to watch.”
“I’m hopeful that the movement that started at UNC will spread across the country,” he told Fox News Digital.

Abby, a Jewish student at Rutgers University, told Fox News Digital that it’s “not right” that the school’s large Jewish student community “feels unsafe when they’re competing for finals.”
“A lot of my friends were here yesterday shouting ‘America’ and ‘It’s all for Israel,’ and I think that’s really beautiful, because that’s what this country is all about,” Abby said.

Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway called the decision “unprecedented” in a letter to the community Thursday.
“Several days ago, some people, including Rutgers students and individuals not part of our community, set up tents on Voorhees Mall. “We have consistently taken steps to ensure that the university’s policies reflect our commitment to “and the university’s standards for disruptive activities,” Holloway said. “Our strategy is focused on de-escalation and yesterday we met with student groups representing the protesters to discuss the need to ensure that exam periods for other students are not disrupted.”

On Tuesday, protesters on the Quad in North Carolina removed American flags and replaced them with Palestinian flags. Interim Premier Lee Roberts intervened along with law enforcement to return Old Glory to its original location.
When protesters tried to remove it a second time, a group of students and fraternity members intervened to prevent it from touching the ground. A third party has since set up her GoFundMe for the Chapel Hill student, and he had raised more than $500,000 by the time the fundraiser ended.
UNC has since installed a fence around the flag pole on campus.
Lee said he hopes what happened at UNC and Rutgers will resonate across the country, citing acts of violence on other campuses across the country.
“I hope more students will stand up against this nonsense put forth by pro-Hamas students…We saw them occupying buildings, vandalizing buildings, destroying buildings in Colombia. ” said Lee.
