Patriots coach Mike Vrabel shares what he would give up to win the Super Bowl

Mike Vrabel’s Commitment to Winning as Head Coach

Over two decades ago, Mike Vrabel sacrificed his body in pursuit of a Super Bowl victory as a player for the New England Patriots. Now, as the team’s head coach, he seems prepared to raise the stakes even higher.

During an interview on “The Greg Hill Show” on Tuesday, he reflected on his earlier comments from 2019. Back then, while coaching the Tennessee Titans, he had made a harsh statement about being willing to cut off his own penis to achieve Super Bowl glory.

This year, he expressed a similar willingness to endure personal sacrifice to lead the current Patriots squad to success. “I might cut it in half, but I’m not going to cut it all off,” he quipped.

At 50, Vrabel has two sons, Tyler and Carter, with his wife, Jen. He explained that the stakes this time around felt different compared to when he coached the 2019 Titans, emphasizing the distinct dynamics of his current team.

“We were just trying to get Taylor [Lewan] and a younger group going,” he reflected, acknowledging how some former NFL players, like Lewan and Will Compton, have ventured into podcasting successfully.

He admitted, “I say a lot of things I don’t mean,” recalling that his 2019 Titans had eliminated the Patriots in the wild-card round of the playoffs, marking Tom Brady’s last game with the team. At that time, the Patriots were just a year removed from their most recent Super Bowl win.

Fast forward six years, and New England, with Vrabel in charge, finds itself back in contention for the championship.

If the Patriots manage to win against the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, Vrabel will make history as the first head coach to win a Super Bowl title both as a player and coach for the same franchise. He has previously secured three Super Bowl titles during his playing career with the Patriots.
