Patriots own reporter says team is ‘teetering on mutiny’

One Patriots official painted a bleak picture of the team after an apparent locker room conversation following New England's third straight loss to the 49ers on Sunday, 30-13.

“Right now, they have a rebellion in the locker room,” said Patriots.com senior reporter Evan Lazar on his and Alex Ruth's “Catch-22” podcast, which is available on the team's website. He spoke on a recent episode of.

“Also, I don't want to be an alarmist. [be hyperbolic]…I don't. But I was in that locker room after the game on Sunday. The defense is mad at the defense.

“The offense is mad at the offense. We have young receivers who are literally throwing tantrums on film.”

As mentioned by Boston-based WEEI “Greg Hill Show” This is important because Lazar works for the team.

Lazar also named second-year wideout Demario “Pop” Douglas. vent your frustrations on the field When he wasn't targeted in the open.

Mr Douglas held accountable on Wednesday, saying: mass live“That's not me. I felt sick as soon as I saw it. My attitude on the field was very disappointing. But my team had my back and I definitely I've got my back on the team. It's just my love for the game. And I love winning.”

Lazar added, “I'm glad Pop Douglas owned it.”

Lazar then brought up the Patriots' quarterback situation.

Veteran Jacoby Brissett has struggled under center this season as the team has started 1-3, even after upsetting the Bengals in the opening game.

Drake Maye, New England's top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is a potential successor, and his teammates may be looking forward to his NFL debut.

“There's 52 other guys in the locker room, and we all watch these two quarterbacks practice every day. We all know they drafted Drake Maye third overall. “There is,” Lazar said. “And when some of them think to themselves, 'Why do I go out every Sunday and get my ass kicked and Drake can't?' mosquito?”

“Like, why go out with a quarterback who won't take the football when you have a Ferrari back in the garage that will give you the football?”

Later that day, Lazar recanted his “insurrection” remarks, saying he “got a little carried away” during a “heated” conversation with Ruth.

“I used the word 'rebellion.' There is no rebellion in the Patriots locker room.” Lazar said Give us a call at 98.5 The Sports Hub. “And like I said, I got carried away and that was bad. That wasn't what was happening.

“My biggest concern, and this is just my personal opinion, is how long the rest of the players in the locker room are going to sit there and get their lumps while Drake Maye waits in the wing. I think he's going to take it.'' And then he waits for his turn.

“So that's just my opinion and it turned out stronger than I intended.”

A struggling quarterback and obvious locker room conversations aren't a great recipe for first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.

The Patriots, currently 1-3, will play the Dolphins (1-3) on Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
