Stefon Diggs Charged with Serious Criminal Violations
Stefon Diggs, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is facing serious criminal charges based on documents from Dedham District Court. Boston 25 News was the first to report on this development.
The charges against him include felonies related to strangulation or suffocation, along with misdemeanor allegations of assault and battery. These stem from an incident that occurred on December 2nd. Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, appeared at the courthouse recently to file a request for police to keep information about the case confidential, indicating that Diggs is “in custody.”
The four-time Pro Bowler is due in court for arraignment on January 23, which is just a couple of days before the AFC Championship Game.
The Patriots released a statement addressing the situation, noting that the 32-year-old receiver denies the allegations. They said, “The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the accusations. We stand by Stefon, and we will continue to gather information and cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL.” Out of respect for everyone involved, and given the ongoing legal matter, they added that they would not comment further at this time.
The NFL acknowledged awareness of the situation and mentioned they’re in touch with the team but refrained from making any additional statements.
This offseason, Diggs signed a three-year deal with the Patriots, which adds another layer to the unfolding situation.
