New Jersey Tech Executive Convicted of Family Murder
Paul Caneiro, a tech executive from New Jersey, was found guilty on Friday for the murders of his brother and his family, with the additional charge of arson after setting their home ablaze.
The 59-year-old Caneiro was convicted of four counts of murder, including the deaths of his brother Keith (50), Keith’s wife Jennifer (45), and their two young children. This verdict was reached by a Monmouth County jury after five hours of deliberation.
Both Paul and Keith Caneiro were business partners in a technology firm named Square One, located in Asbury Park. Prosecutors suggested that a deteriorating business relationship was at the root of the murders. It has been claimed that Keith discovered that Paul had been stealing money from both their business and him personally. Authorities allege that after the murders, Paul set their home on fire in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Reports indicate that Caneiro ignited his brother’s residence in Ocean Township using gasoline while his wife and two daughters were present. Thankfully, they were unharmed in the incident.
In a shocking revelation, it’s alleged that Paul Caneiro entered his brother’s home at night, lighting both fires to mislead investigators into believing there was a wider attack on the entire family. The defense argued that due to investigative oversights, other potential suspects, including another brother, were not thoroughly examined. They also mentioned that two individuals had been seen at the home shortly before authorities arrived.
Paul Caneiro is facing a potential life sentence, with the sentencing scheduled for May 12th.
