Trial of Paul Caneiro’s Daughter Begins
On Monday, the trial of Paul Caneiro’s daughter commenced in relation to the horrific 2018 killings of family members, including brothers and sisters.
Katelyn Caneiro, now 33, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, reflecting on the tragic loss of her uncle Keith Caneiro, alongside his wife Jennifer and their two children, Sofia, 8, and Jesse, 11. “I hope that I can think of you every day and hold you one last time,” she wrote, expressing the deep emotional impact of their absence three years after their murders.
The post included a black-and-white photograph of Katelyn smiling with her uncle, emphasizing the close bond their families once had. “Uncle Keith, I smile each day thinking about your laughter,” she reminisced, alongside a lighthearted acknowledgment of his humor.
Addressing her late aunt, she said, “Aunt Jen, I wanted to be you,” highlighting the love and admiration she felt. For her cousin, Jesse, she fondly recalled weekly FaceTime calls, reminiscing, “My Jesse boy… you’re my person.”
Katelyn’s emotional post captured her memories: “To know that you are still with me keeps me moving,” she noted, suggesting that her late loved ones often visit her in dreams.
She affectionately called Sofia “My Pipskiek. My Mini Me,” recalling her adventurous spirit and the joy she found in playful moments. “I wish I could catch you one last time,” she expressed.
In a 2020 remembrance, Katelyn mentioned how she frequently felt lost in dreams of her loved ones, as if they were still reaching out to her.
Paul Caneiro, aged 58, faces serious charges, including the murder of his business partner brother, their mother’s stabbing, and the tragic deaths of the two children before setting fire to their Colts Neck Mansion. Authorities allege he also burned his own home in Ocean Township, suggesting a motive rooted in greed, particularly due to financial troubles involving up to $75,000 taken from co-owned businesses.
As the trial approaches, jury selection for this four-count murder case is set to start on September 8, despite a defense motion to move the proceedings away from Monmouth County being rejected by the judge.
Katelyn, a graduate of Seton Hall University and now a nurse, has not commented publicly. Her mother, Susan Caneiro, who recently relocated to Toms River, New Jersey, likewise declined to provide any statements.
Additionally, other family members, including Paul and Susan’s older daughter, Marissa, and Corey Saneiro, the younger brother of Paul and Keith, have chosen not to comment on the case.
