Paul Gosar Is Third Republican to Join Motion to Vacate Speaker Mike Johnson

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) has seen enough. On Friday, minutes after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) handed over control of the House to Democrats, Gosar joined Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in a motion to resign as speaker. Then he announced.

Mr. Gosar echoed the sentiments of many other conservatives, saying Mr. Johnson had abandoned House Republicans’ influence in securing the border by tying emergency aid to Ukraine to Israel.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) also joined Greene’s efforts. Other countries are also likely to join after Friday’s unprecedented vote set the stage for final passage on Saturday of a nearly $100 billion foreign aid package that includes tens of billions of dollars for Ukraine.

Gosar’s full statement read:

Nearly 11 million illegal aliens have crossed the southern border in the past three years. My congressional district in Arizona is a bastion of invasion and is being battered by a surge in lawbreakers. These illegal aliens contribute to violent crime, deadly drugs, human trafficking, and drain resources and services for the American people. In fact, every state has become a border state. Communities across the country are being destroyed, families are being destroyed, and Americans in need are being ignored.

Congress cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the consequences of Biden’s disastrous open borders policy, nor can it sit idly by and wait for Biden to end this invasion through executive legislative policy. Congress has a responsibility to resolve this crisis.

But instead of spending money to secure our southern border and fight the infiltration of 11 million illegal aliens, despite repeated promises, we will first open the border, the U.S. House of Representatives, under the direction of the president. No additional funds will be sent to Ukraine without being secured. The Chairman is trying to send another $61 billion to draw America further into the endless and aimless war in Ukraine.

I have added my name in favor of the motion of the Chairman to retire. Our borders cannot be an afterthought. Rather than bow to the reckless demands of warmongers, neocons, and the military-industrial complex, we can make billions in costly, endless wars half a world away. We need a chairman who puts America first, not just America.
