Paul Ryan: 'Death, taxes and weird stuff from Donald Trump' are life's sure things

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that “bizarre behavior from Donald Trump” is one of the things that is sure to happen in his lifetime.

Ryan said last month that he did not support former President Trump, who later called Ryan a “loser” and called for him to be removed from the Fox board. Ryan dismissed the attacks on Tuesday. Fox NewsThe former president reiterated that he is “not a conservative.”

“I got death, taxes and weirdness from Donald Trump. Those are the three sure things in my life. So for me, this is just another day in the life,” Ryan said on Fox’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”

Ryan was asked to respond to a Truth Social post last month in which Trump called him a “Republican in Name Only,” or “RINO.” Ryan fired back, saying the term has now come to refer to someone who is not loyal to Trump.

“Loyalty to Trump is RINO (Republican Independent). So if you’re not loyal to the guy, you’re a RINO. It used to mean liberal Republicans versus conservatives,” Ryan said.

“I’m a conservative Republican. He’s a populist. He’s not a conservative. I want to see someone who is principled. I want a party based on principles, not personalities or populism,” he added.

He also said he wished there was a “different option than what’s being presented to us.” He also said he does not support President Biden and will likely vote as a Republican in the November election.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
