Lulu Simon Criticizes Richard Gere Over Childhood Home Sale

Lulu Simon, daughter of Paul Simon, took to Instagram to voice her displeasure with Richard Gere, who has reportedly sold her childhood home to real estate developers. It seems emotions are still running high regarding this matter.

In her post, Lulu humorously remarked, “I’ll do that in case anyone wondered if I still hate Richard Gere!” She shared some pointed comments on the situation, emphasizing how she feels about the sale.

She explained that Gere had initially purchased the property with assurances that he would maintain it and only sell it as nine separate plots to developers, promising to take care of the land. Clearly, Lulu feels betrayed by this agreement.

“I hate him!” she exclaimed, sharing screenshots of an article that covered Gere’s recent real estate activities. The story detailed how Gere had bought a home in New Canaan, Connecticut, for $10.8 million in 2022 from his wife, Edie Brickell.

In a follow-up post, Lulu expressed a rather dark sentiment, hoping her deceased pet was buried in the backyard of that house. Her post featured a photo of her childhood pets alongside a picture of Gere, which must have added a personal touch to her grievances.

As for the current status of the property, it was reported that Gere and Alejandra Silva sold Simon’s former home for $10.75 million in October 2024, right before news broke that it would be demolished to make way for new developments.

Interestingly, this sale and subsequent demolition were discussed shortly after Gere and Silva moved to Spain. Alejandra, being from Spain, wanted to get closer to her family, which explains their relocation.

Gere himself has shared his excitement about the move, stating that living in Madrid would be a grand adventure. He described the experience as beneficial not only for him but also for their children, allowing them to embrace Alejandra’s culture.

There’s a bit of back and forth here, though. Silva mentioned their plans to return to the U.S. occasionally. In fact, she noted how they’d maintain ties to the U.S. for the sake of their children and family, keeping things balanced.

While there are layers of complexity around this situation involving childhood nostalgia, real estate negotiations, and family dynamics, the emotional weight remains evident.
