Paul Skenneth Faces Off Against Jacob Misiorowski
It seems like 23-year-old Paul Skenneth might’ve encountered a tough competitor in Jacob Misiorowski. The two players went head-to-head during a game on Wednesday, marking an interesting moment in their young careers.
Misiorowski, also 23, was on the mound for the Brewers and managed to outshine Skenneth in a rare occurrence.
After allowing a walk to the first batter he faced at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Skenneth regrouped and struck out two of his next three opponents. However, things quickly spiraled as he allowed a series of hits, which ultimately led to four runs for the Brewers.
Despite Skenneth’s struggles, Misiorowski showcased impressive skill on the mound, throwing a scoreless outing and hitting three batters along the way.
The four runs Skenneth gave up in just two innings were critical in Pittsburgh’s eventual 4-2 defeat. This marked one of the higher run totals he’s surrendered early in his career.
Interestingly, Skenneth only pitched four innings, which is the shortest outing for him this season.
This is also notable as it was the second time in his career he lasted only two innings in a start. Previously, he had pitched two flawless innings against the Yankees at the end of his rookie season before getting pulled early in a game that didn’t matter for the Pirates.
On the flip side, Misiorowski has made a strong impression since being called up from Triple-A in early June.
In this outing, he pitched five innings, giving up just two hits and two walks while racking up eight strikeouts. His performance lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.13 over his three starts so far.
Skenneth is known for his high-speed pitches, yet Misiorowski pushed the envelope with a fastball clocked at 102.4 mph, throwing 19 of the game’s 20 fastest pitches.
This matchup was just the third start for Misiorowski, but he’s already establishing himself as one of the more formidable pitchers in the league.
If Milwaukee plays its cards right with Misiorowski’s development, fans could be in for some thrilling pitching duels between these two rivals for years to come.
