— Statement from the Bryson family
Bryson, an iconic American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, was known for both his smooth voice and romantic ballads. He was born Robert Pipo Bryson on April 13, 1951, in Greenville, South Carolina. His career took off in his teenage years, and he became one of modern R&B’s most respected male vocalists, earning eight Grammy nominations over his lifetime.
In the ’80s, he rose to fame with songs like “Feel the Fire,” “Reaching for the Sky,” and “If Ever You Are In My Arms Again.” He was especially celebrated for his remarkable duets, like “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle. Those songs are just timeless, aren’t they?
Bryson has released over 20 studio albums throughout his more than 50-year career, which is quite a feat. His emotional performances granted him the title of “King of Ballads.” It’s hard not to feel a bit nostalgic thinking about his music.
He had a son with his wife Tanya Boniface Bryson, whom he married in July 2010, and they welcomed their child in 2018. He also has a daughter, Linda Bryson, from a previous relationship.
Peabo Bryson will surely be remembered for his substantial contributions to music and the joy he brought to countless fans. It’s a significant loss for the music world and his admirers everywhere.
