Dominic Perico – Referred to as the worst by his family Sex offenders in recent French history referred to themselves as family men. He liked to cycle through the French countryside on Sundays, took his son and grandson to soccer games, and was great at celebrating birthdays.

“My parents had a talent for planning surprise birthday parties for us,” said their eldest son, David. “All my friends were there, too, and my friends told me how lucky I was to have a father like that. Everyone looked up to him at those parties – my friends rolled him. I was watching as a model. He danced with my friend and sat down to eat with my friend, and today that friend doesn't understand what's going on.”

What kind of verdict do you expect?

The five-judge panel makes decisions by secret ballot, with a majority required to convict and sentence a convicted person.

Dominic Perricott, a 72-year-old retired electrician and real estate agent, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors have asked for the maximum sentence in his case, prosecutor Laure Chabot told the court. “Twenty years between the four walls of a prison. That's a lot, but not enough.”

Most of the 50 other men charged with him have denied the charges, but those accused of aggravated rape faced 10 to 18 years on charges of sexual assault. One person was sentenced to four years in prison. One man is on the run and is being tried in absentia.

My colleague Kim Wilshire has this to say about what to expect today:
