Pelosi says she has not spoken to Biden since he dropped out

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told CNN on Monday that she hasn’t spoken to President Biden since he dropped out of the presidential race last month, signaling possible rifts between the two veteran Democrats.

Pelosi told CNN’s Dana Bash that she hasn’t spoken to the president since he ended his campaign, but that she is open to doing so.

“We’re all busy,” she said.

When asked if she had a good relationship with Biden, she replied, “I don’t know until I ask him, but I hope so.”

Pelosi has denied that she was one of the most influential voices who privately urged Biden to quit the campaign, according to The Hill, telling CNN that she has never forced anyone to take such a position or said so publicly herself.

“I have hundreds of allies in the United States Congress. No, I have nothing to do with it. If you ask them, it’s almost an insult, because they are powerful people in the United States Congress. They make their own decisions and say their own things.”

Despite her efforts to remove Biden as a candidate, Pelosi continued to praise the president.

“I have loved and respected Joe Biden for more than 40 years,” she said, “and I believe he has done the most for our country in the shortest time of any president you can name.”

Immediately after Biden finished his campaign, CNN reported: The president is “seething” with anger, much of it directed at Pelosi.
