Pelosi Says ‘Time Is Running Short’ To Find Replacement For Biden

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi avoided commenting on President Joe Biden’s candidacy in an interview Wednesday, saying “time is running out” to find a Democratic replacement.

“It’s up to the president to decide whether he wants to run,” said Rep. Pelosi, D-Calif. MSNBCMorning Joe“Fantastic,” he said, after praising the 81-year-old president’s “masterful” performance while speaking at the NATO summit in Washington DC.

“Time is running out and we’re all urging him to make a decision,” she added. “It’s not for me to say. I’m not the caucus leader anymore. But he’s loved and respected and people want him to make a decision.”

Pelosi’s comments came after Biden sent a letter to Democrats on Monday morning saying he remains “firmly committed” to staying in the 2024 presidential race.

Pelosi stressed that she was proud of Biden’s job performance.

“Whatever decision the president makes, we will follow,” she said, shifting gears, “and I have told people, let’s put whatever we’re thinking on hold for now, don’t bring it up until you speak to somebody privately or see how this week plays out, but I’m very proud of the president.”

Additionally, House Democrats met privately at Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters on Tuesday morning to discuss the future of their party’s leadership.
