Pelosi Set to Support JFK's Grandson Jack Schlossberg for New York House

Nancy Pelosi’s Support for Jack Schlossberg

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is poised to endorse Jack Schlossberg for New York’s 12th Congressional District. He plans to make this announcement formally on Sunday.

Schlossberg emphasized the importance of this moment in American politics, stating, “Trust in our politics has been shattered and trust in our government is diluted.” He believes that his candidacy could aid Democrats in winning at the national level.

Pelosi’s backing for Schlossberg reflects her longstanding connection to the Kennedy family. Notably, her father chaired John F. Kennedy’s campaign in Maryland back in 1960. Previously, she showed support for Joseph P. Kennedy III during his unsuccessful primary run against Senator Ed Markey in Massachusetts in 2020. There’s a sentiment among Democrats that they may reclaim the House this election cycle, with hopes of installing Hakeem Jeffries as the new speaker.

In his campaign announcement in November 2025, Schlossberg declared, “This is our last chance to stop Trump. It will never happen again. History is calling. Will we respond?” His campaign platform, titled “Promise to the People,” encompasses values such as patriotism, accountability, independence, and pragmatism.

Although Schlossberg has not previously held public office, he did represent President Biden as a delegate at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, briefly worked at the State Department, and campaigned to engage young voters during the last election cycle.

As the grandson of President John F. Kennedy and the son of U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, Schlossberg encounters some skepticism from party insiders. Congressman Jerry Nadler, who is retiring from his seat, questioned Schlossberg’s qualifications, suggesting that his successor should have “a track record of public service.” While Nadler has yet to endorse a candidate, one contender in the race is Mika Lasher, a longtime aide to him.

Other Democratic candidates in the mix include George Conway, a former Republican and prominent critic of President Trump. He launched his campaign on January 6—the fifth anniversary of the Capitol riot—starting with a video showcasing the riot footage and Trump’s comments encouraging the crowd to march. Conway condemned Trump as a “corrupt president” and described his campaign as a direct challenge against the authoritarian tendencies he attributes to Trump, while also addressing broader issues of democracy and justice. Additionally, he promotes a grassroots campaign model and opposes corporate PAC donations, stating that “big money poisons our politics.”
