Pence on a future presidential run: ‘I don’t envision that for myself’

Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed that he doesn’t foresee a notable political comeback, suggesting he likely won’t run for president again. This was revealed in a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“I’m not really focused on my future,” said Pence, the former governor of Indiana, during his conversation with NBC’s Kristen Welker. “I haven’t figured it all out yet, but we’re continuing to do the work we’ve always done, and I think the future will unfold as it should.”

At 65, Pence did indicate he wants to remain involved in conservative issues, although he didn’t detail how that might manifest. In 2021, he established a think tank aimed at promoting a progressive American free conservative agenda, and last year he called for the nomination of a GOP presidential candidate, but it didn’t seem to gain significant traction among voters.

“I aim to advocate for conservative values and champion the principles outlined in the US Constitution,” Pence shared with Welker. “That’s my focus, and we’ll see how things go moving forward.”

Pence reflected on his relationship with former President Trump, particularly the turmoil at the end of Trump’s first term when Trump wouldn’t acknowledge Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election. This led to supporters storming the Capitol, and Pence and his family had to be evacuated for their safety as the rioters entered the building.

“I take pride in the achievements of the Trump-Pence administration, even if it didn’t conclude as I had hoped. I would have rebuilt our military, rejuvenated the economy, and pushed for a new chapter in the pro-life movement while supporting religious liberties. Those goals would have brought me immense satisfaction,” he noted.

Pence did not comment on who he thinks should succeed Trump as the leader of the GOP. Recently, Trump mentioned potential successors like Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
