Penguins’ Alex Nedeljkovic nets goal, assist in historic NHL feat

A goaltender made NHL history.

In the final minutes of Friday's game between the Penguins and Sabres, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic scored from the opposite end of the ice, becoming the first goaltender in NHL history to record a goal and an assist in the same game.

After scoring the goal, Nedeljković ran onto the Penguins bench and was mobbed by his teammates.

Nedeljkovic's empty-netter at the 17:18 mark of the third period gave the Penguins five points to beat the Sabers 5-2.

The Penguins netminder had an assist earlier in the game when he assisted forward Cody Glass in the second period.

Nedeljkovic becomes the second goaltender in Penguins history to do so, joining Tristan Jarry last season.

Only 16 goalies in NHL history have lit the lamp, totaling just 19 goals.

A goaltender's last goal was scored by Wild goaltender Filip Gustafsson against the Blues in October earlier this season.

Nedeljković's goal marks the first time that multiple goalkeepers have scored in the same season.

Longtime Devils star Martin Brodeur is the all-time leader in points by a goaltender, a feat the Hall of Famer accomplished three times during his 22-year NHL career. .
